Have you lately seen this fantastic good old fellow ghost couple, with Angst holding the hands of his wife Panic tightly and spreading around the world? Everyone is feeding them and they are growing rapidly into a self fulfilling prophecy at its best.
Individuals, organizations, companies, media, academia, governments, they all drive and are driven by these fellows.
The imagined colorful scenarios of losing business, cash, credit, jobs etc. become real – because everyone imagines it. Reality is built in our minds.
In such dark and shrill situations where everyone smells the burning fire and feels the heat, human beings as we are, go onto autopilot. It has been learned for 1,000,000 of years, is hard wired in our brain and off we go.
People run, companies cut.
If you just run you will lose your energy after a while and die – not because of the fire but because of no reserves left.
If companies cut their cost to the extent that production, quality and services are deteriorating they go bankrupt. Not because of the fire but because they cut their productive forces – human beings.
So what to do?
Stop running and think.
Stop using the axe when cutting cost, think and look for a scalpel instead to then slice the fat.
Each crisis has prior to its start an end, the end of the prosperous and good times. And the end of the crisis has a follower, the start of a new prosperous and good period.
May be it is time to change perspective now. Rather looking through your shivering thoughts of your immanent financial death or bankruptcy look calmly at and focus on what you need for the new start into the better land.
The danger for individuals and companies lies exactly here: if you are not prepared for the next up-turn you will be cleaned out by the crisis, which is the healthy function of a crisis. And, of course, you don’t want to be part of the excess which is wiped away – for a clean, fresh beginning.
Stop running and use your energy to build your body and mind for the coming new start. Stop axing productive human forces and invest in the best. Only that will help companies to be the front runners when the time is right. Don’t miss it!
